Goat Shares

Rhonda, from Autumn Acres is our newest milker! She is a registered Lamancha and after freshening a couple of weeks ago, is producing over a gallon a day! Good job, Rhonda.

In a goat share agreement, consumers pay a fee for boarding their goat, (or share of a goat), caring for the goat and milking the goat. The goat share owner then obtains (but does not purchase) the milk from his own goat.

You choose a pick up day that you would like to get your milk, based on availability. WE milk the goats, chill the milk and put into sanitized mason jars for you. There is a one time charge of $60 per goat share/per year contract. Then there is the initial cost of $8 per share for 4 jars/lids which allows for one jar in your fridge, one waiting here at the farm, one in transit and an extra in case of breakage. Bring back your jar/s that have been well washed(after being rinsed in cool water to remove milk residue) in hot, soapy water or in the dishwasher and I sterilize.  Then you have your boarding fees of $6/week which entitles you to a gallon of milk. You then transport milk home via a cooler or other method of keeping your milk below 40 degrees.

If for some reason you cannot pick up your milk for the week, you can send someone else to do it for you. The day of your milk pick up helps us give you the freshest milk-usually the day before/day of pick up. The jars will be marked with share owner's name and put in the fridge so if you find you cannot pick up on your day, and cannot find someone to do it for you, it will be waiting in the fridge for you. The weekly boarding fee applies whether you pick up your milk or not, since this fee covers the cost of feeding/caring for your goat. Milk cannot be resold by you but you CAN find someone else to buy your share if you no longer need it before the year's end. Just contact us and we can change contract to that person.

The girls enjoy browsing and are out to free range when possible.  As we get more fencing up they will have more rotational pasture to explore.
