Farm Fresh Eggs
Here at Sunshine Meadows, we let our chickens roam free choosing what and when to eat. No battery cages here! Our pasture is free of herbicides, pesticides and any other "cide" cause our birds don't like them and neither do we. So, plenty of bugs and weed seeds and wild raspberries, too. Oh, and let's not forget when they sneek into the organically grown garden and feast on lettuces, kale, beet greens and whatever they find before we find them! When we can get it organic, locally grown grain is offered, which DOES include non-GMO soybeans. Otherwise we offer a no meat by-product, antibiotic and hormone free ration. During the cold months, when the ground is frozen the girls don't forage but they do like to roam around outside, exploring. Fresh water is always available and comfy nesting boxes to lay their eggs are in their coop, which they spend the night in to protect them from predators.
Eggs, $4.25/doz, are available year round. We do not "grade" our eggs so you will get a mixed size/shape of eggs. During the Fall/Winter months, production decreases dramatically because of the shorter days(sunlight) so it's best to call first at 248-464-1825 or email lorij@sunshinemeadowsfarm.com to check for availability, especially if you are making a special trip. During the Fall/Winter months, large quantities of eggs will NOT be available. We are just east of Cook's Farm Dairy in Ortonville.
Also seasonally (spring/summer/fall) available are duck eggs, $10/doz. Like our chickens, the ducks roam wherever they want, when they want. At night, they are secured in their enclosure to protect them from predators. We have lost several flocks of ducks to foxes, when the ducks have refused to go in at night. :(
We work to ensure that our regular, dedicated customers get the eggs they need. As such we work on a subscription type basis with customers choosing a day of the week to routinely come out and get their eggs. During the winter months we rarely have "extras" but in the spring we do have more available to those wanting a dozen or two. Feel free to get on our "regulars" list for spring 2012!
