Dreaming of Sunshine....

We are a small, family farm in Northern Oakland County, MI,  utilizing natural/organic practices in raising our food and animals. We began our homestead in 2004 with our first flock of laying hens and were hooked. You just can't beat pasture-raised chicken eggs!  We have also worked since then to introduce organic matter into the land in order to sustain a bountiful herb and vegetable garden.  Our little orchard was established in 2006 and is now starting to bear fruit.  Spring of 2008 saw the introduction of turkeys, ducks and broilers for both meat and eggs. Also rounding out our animal family is a small herd of milking goats and our alpaca boys.

Our seven children are very much involved in the operation of our farm. Their contributions to the care animals is phenominal! Several of the children participate in  our local 4-H program (and Lorij is a 4-H Leader) and raise the various animals to support that. They show goats, chickens, turkeys and soon the alpacas. Our farm has evolved from raising animals for our own use, to sharing it with others!

Available from June-October are a variety of vegetables, herbs and fruit grown in an organic method. These items are available via a CSA. The CSA for the 2010 season is FULL. We are considering a "farm stand" here on farm every other week. Keep checking back for details.

New this year, we are raising a few duroc pigs, which are known to be good foragers so good for pasturing! Son #2 has been wanting to try his hand at showing pigs so here we go! Kinda ironic as we only eat poultry so defies our premise of raising what we eat, but hey, we are happy to give our son this experience and the opportunity to raise a little money for college (books!) in 2011. All pigs have been sold. Thank you!
